What Happened:A supermarket worker in Chile stopped a shoplifter by throwing a Coca-Cola bottle that struck the thief in the head, dropping him instantly.
Why It Matters:The moment, caught on CCTV, shows how store staff prevented a theft when the shoplifter tried to escape past security.
Bottom Line:The worker’s quick reaction allowed security to detain the thief until authorities arrived.
A shoplifter in Santiago, Chile, learned the hard way that crime doesn’t pay — and sometimes it hits you square in the head. CCTV footage captured the moment a supermarket worker turned into an accidental MLB pitcher and stopped a theft-in-progress with one perfectly launched bottle of Coca-Cola.
The video shows a thief trying to bolt for the exit with a bag full of stolen items. A security guard tried to block him by pushing carts into his escape path, but the shoplifter kept dodging and weaving, determined to make his getaway.
Then, out of nowhere, a store employee stepped up and delivered the most casual, nonchalant toss imaginable. The Coke bottle sailed across the store, smacked the thief right on the side of the head, and sent him face-first into the floor. No struggle, no chase — just instant justice.
The security guard immediately jumped in and detained the stunned shoplifter until authorities arrived. And yes, the bottle survived.
Social media users were quick to praise the worker’s accuracy. One commenter joked, “He even saved the bottle, it didn’t break. Everything went perfectly.” Others called it the best Coca-Cola ad ever made.
This isn’t the first time everyday citizens have stepped in to stop thieves. Back in 2016, a 16-stone former boxer named Kenny took down a Boots shoplifter in the U.K. by wrestling him to the ground and sitting on him until police arrived.
But while Kenny used brute strength, this Chilean hero used a Coke bottle… and somehow made it look even easier.
