Patriot Brief
A Minneapolis daycare reported a break-in just as scrutiny intensifies over alleged daycare fraud statewide.
The only items reportedly taken were enrollment and employee documents.
Online observers questioned whether the damage appeared to come from inside the building.
If this were a movie, the scene would be rejected for being too on-the-nose. Right as Minnesota’s Somali daycare fraud scandal is drawing national attention, one Minneapolis facility claims it was burglarized — and the burglars just happened to take the exact documents that would matter most in any investigation.
According to CBS News, Nokomis Daycare says intruders broke in during the early morning hours and stole child enrollment records and employee files. Not cash. Not electronics. Paperwork. That alone raises eyebrows. Add in the timing, and it starts to feel less like bad luck and more like a coincidence that’s trying way too hard.
Online reactions zeroed in on the physical evidence. Footage circulating on X shows damage that many users believe looks like it originated from inside the building, not from an attempted forced entry. That doesn’t prove anything by itself — but it does complicate the story. When people are already skeptical, every inconsistency matters.
To be clear, Nokomis was not part of Nick Shirley’s viral investigation, and there is no public record tying the facility to fraud. But context matters. When a scandal is unfolding and a business suddenly can’t produce documents because they were “stolen,” suspicion is inevitable.
No conclusions should be drawn yet. Law enforcement will sort out what actually happened. Still, the optics are terrible. If the goal was to calm concerns, this did the opposite. In a moment when transparency is everything, losing critical records — under highly convenient circumstances — only deepens public distrust. Sometimes the cover-up doesn’t need to be proven to be damaging. It just needs to look unbelievable.
From Western Journal:
Just as things are heating up in Minnesota over the ongoing Somali daycare fraud scandal, one facility in Minneapolis claims it was the victim of a robbery.
CBS News reports the Nokomis Daycare Center alleges the crime took place Tuesday morning between 3 and 6 am.
Apparently, the assailants entered through cinder blocks after trying to saw the door open from the neighboring Dollar General.
The timing of these events looks even more suspicious when considering what the thieves took — documents relating to children enrolled at Nokomis, along with employee files.
It is important to note — per CBS’s report — Nokomis was not one of the daycares in YouTuber Nick Shirley’s investigation that sought to out those businesses receiving federal money without actually serving their communities.
Additionally, the Minnesota Department of Human Services does not have a record of fraud being committed by Nokomis, not that this dispels any suspicion, as the state government has been implicated in these allegations.
Footage of the aftermath of the alleged crime was reposted to the social media platform X, with users noting it looked like the damage to Nokomis did not come from someone trying to get in, but was already inside.
Influencer and commentator Nick Sortor called the spectacle a “Total clown show.”
“The Somali Daycare who falsely claim someone broke in and stole their ‘student enrollment’ documents are now showing off the where the “burglar” entered Unfortunately for them though, the cuts in the Sheetrock seem to have been made on the INSIDE”
